Man suspected of driving drunk and crashing into pole

Laguna Beach police arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence after he struck a utility pole on Laguna Canyon Road Saturday morning.

The 4 a.m. crash caused police to temporarily restrict traffic to vehicles of 15 feet tall or under because of an overhanging power line, Sgt. Tim Kleiser wrote in an email.

Police said a 22-year-old Laguna Beach man was headed south on the state highway when he hit the pole. The man, who was alone in the car, was not injured and no other cars were damaged, Kleiser said.

The crash, south of Willow Canyon Road, did not cause a power outage and Southern California Edison crews replaced the damaged pole and wires, company spokeswoman Susan Cox said. Police reopened the road to all cars at 11:30 a.m., Kleiser said.
