Briefs: Fischer sisters on national team roster for Olympic qualifying tournament

Sisters Makenzie and Aria Fischer of Laguna Beach have been named to the 13-member USA Water Polo Women’s National Team roster for the 2016 Olympic Qualification Tournament starting March 21 in Gouda, Netherlands.

The top four teams from the tournament qualify for the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Team USA won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

The roster for the Olympic Qualification Tournament is the same group of players who led Team USA to the gold medal last month at the Intercontinental Tournament in Lewisville, Texas.

Over a five-day span, Team USA will take on Japan (March 21), Canada (March 22), Spain (March 23), Greece (March 24) and South Africa (March 25) in group play. The tournament semifinals are March 28, semifinals March 28, and final is March 28.

Lewis takes seventh

Michael Lewis of Laguna Beach began the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge season at the front of the 33-car field and earned a seventh-place finish in the series’ first race Saturday at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. Lewis was at the helm of the No. 41 EFFORT Racing/Curb-Agajanian Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Lewis and the EFFORT Racing team will participate in the next two rounds of the PWC Friday through Sunday at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.
