Breakers learning early on NJB season

Share

The Laguna Beach Breakers got off to a rocky start in their 2015-16 National Junior Basketball season by dropping their first three games which included a 47-30 setback Saturday to Florida.

A lack of team rebounds, a leaky defense and costly turnovers, combined with the untimely absence of players due to health, have been contributing factors in all three of the losses this year. The Breakers have shown positive signs of effort and resilience despite the defeats.

Charlie Pillsbury and Kaden Herzog continue to provide consistency and stability to the team and scored eight points apiece in Saturday’s setback, have played tenacious defense that have led to turnovers, and both have consistently contributed in the rebounding department.

Taro Sakai and Chase Hall have both been consistent contributors throughout the early season. Sakai had 10 points, including a three-point shot, and Hall added four points, and both players brought aggressive defense which led to steals and turnovers against Florida.

Timmy Chandler, a spark plug for the Breakers, did not score but his tenacious energy led to baskets, steals, and rebounds for his teammates. Miles Riehle, Evan Henry and John Ali rounded out the team effort in Saturday’s game with solid offensive and defensive support.
