A taxi driver who admitted to raping an intoxicated woman in his cab in Huntington Beach was sentenced this week to eight years in prison.

Samy Hakim, a 59-year-old Anaheim resident, pleaded guilty to one felony count of forcible rape on July 5, said Chris Kim, spokesman for the Orange County district attorney’s office.

According to a news release from the district attorney’s office, Hakim was working his shift as a taxi cab driver in the early hours of Nov. 18, 2014, when he picked up a 36-year-old woman from a Huntington Beach bar to drive her home.

Hakim then drove the woman to her apartment complex and raped her inside his cab while she was under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said.

Authorities said Hakim then dropped the woman off and drove away.

The woman reported the incident later that day to the Huntington Beach Police Department, which investigated the case and arrested Hakim on July 9, 2015.

In addition to the prison time, Hakim was also sentenced to three years of formal probation and must also register as a lifetime sex offender, Kim said.
