H.B. motorcyclist dead after crashing on 5 Freeway

A Huntington Beach man died early Friday after losing control of his motorcycle on the 5 Freeway, authorities said.

The man, whom the Orange County coroner’s office identified as Omar Diaz Martinez, 29, was found dead near the right shoulder of the southbound freeway south of Orangewood Avenue in Orange, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Martinez was riding south on a Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle at about 2:10 a.m. when he lost control and fell onto the roadway, officials said. The motorcycle continued to travel for about 600 feet, the CHP said.

The cause of the crash is unknown, officials said.
