HB to host Civil War reenactors

Share

Huntington Beach will travel back in time to the 1800s this weekend as American Civil War and other historical reenactors descend upon Central Park.

The 23rd annual Civil War Days Living History Event on Saturday and Sunday will include two battles each day.

There will also be reenactments of President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, weapon demonstrations and meet-and-greets with actors playing historical figures like Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

The Huntington Beach Historical Society has organized the event since 1993, when it was staged behind the Newland House Museum at Bartlett Park with only 50 people, according to society Vice President Darrell Rivers. More people started attending the reenactments each year, and by 1998, the event relocated to Central Park.
