Authorities have arrested a man they believe was responsible for a robbery that turned into a bomb scare this week in Fountain Valley, police said Thursday.

Fountain Valley police said they received a tip about the suspect and, with the help of FBI agents, found him at a Santa Ana motel on Wednesday.

As he left the room, officers arrested Scott Martin Richetts, 50, of Santa Ana, according to police.

Police allege that Richetts made off with cash from a bank and sparked an evacuation there Monday afternoon.

In that incident, a man walked into the Bank of America at 16192 Harbor Blvd. around 3:45 p.m., grabbed a teller by the hand and demanded cash, police said.

After the teller handed over about $500, the robber fled, but not before dropping his backpack and saying it contained a bomb, according to authorities.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad responded and determined there were no explosives in the bag, police said.

Police arrested Richetts on suspicion of robbery, making a bomb threat, and a probation violation. His bail was set at $50,000, police said.
