Briefs: Golf tournament to raise money for Edison baseball

The Edison High baseball program will host its first Baseball Invitational Golf Fundraising Tournament Friday at Meadowlark Golf Club (16782 Graham Street) in Huntington Beach.

The BIG tournament cost is $125 per golfer and includes green fees, cart, range balls, raffles and a buffet dinner. Check-in is 11 a.m. and tee-off time is noon. For non-golfers, the cost is $30 for dinner only.

FBA tryouts are Saturday

Fryer Basketball Academy spring tryouts will be held Saturday at the Huntington Beach High gymnasium (1905 Main Street).

FBA, an Amateur Athletic Union program, will run the tryouts at the following times: Grades 4-5, 10 to 11 a.m.; Grades 6-8, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The program will focus on fundamentals and the teams are coached by current high school coaches and former collegiate players.

The 10-week season starts April 4 and run through June 12. Practices will held twice per week and teams will participate in up to five tournaments during the season. A summer season will start after the completion of the spring season.

Oilers Football fundraiser

The Tee Off Oilers Football Golf Classic, which benefits the football program at Huntington Beach High, is May 9 at SeaCliff Country Club (6501 Palm Avenue) in Huntington Beach.

The tournament is a four-person scramble format and contests include putting, hole-in-one, closest-to-the-pin, and longest drive. Prizes also will be offered. During cocktail hour, a helicopter will circle overhead for a ball drop, a closest-to-the-pin contest that awards $1,000 to the winner. The day will be capped by an awards ceremony and dinner party featuring a silent auction and prize raffle.

The cost is $195 per person and $750 per foursome and includes green fees, cart and dinner. Dinner-only tickets are available at $50 per person. Registration and sponsorship opportunities are currently available only until April 22.
