Like it or not, Chris Paul too will be expected to sit out a game sooner or later

All Chris Paul can do is wait for the moment when the Clippers will force the All-Star point guard to sit out a game.

Paul said he hasn’t had a conversation with Clippers Coach Doc Rivers or Jasen Powell, the Clippers’ director of media services and head athletic trainer, or Mark Simpson, the team’s director of performance, about when he’ll be told it’s time to rest his 6-foot frame.

So Paul just waits, knowing the time will come, knowing he’ll probably fight the decision to a degree.

He knew it wasn’t going to happen Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors at Staples Center. But the Clippers have two days off before they host New Orleans on Saturday and then a day off before playing Portland on Monday at home.

It’s very possible that the biometrics the Clippers have employed this season will be presented to Paul soon, and that will force him to sit out one of those games.

Teammates Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick have already taken a game off for rest.

“We’ll see,” Paul said. “We’ll see when it comes. They haven’t talked to me. I’ll hear them out.”

He takes pride in playing every game, in being on the court to help his team.

Paul has played in all 23 games game this season, and it has always been his goal to play in all 82 regular-season games.

However, “It’s a bigger picture,” Paul said. “It’s not about the December games. It’s not about November games. It’s about building. But at the end of the day, if you win this game in December or if you sit this game in December, ain’t nobody going to remember anything about it when it comes to the playoffs.

“That’s why I said I’ll hear them out. I will have that conversation because I see the bigger picture. If you have to sacrifice something right now in order to win a championship, I’m cool.”

Etc.

Rivers said backup point guard Raymond Felton was not with team Wednesday night because his grandmother died.
