President Barack Obama joins Twitter, and Cubs get shut out

President Barack Obama finally opened his own Twitter account Monday, and he immediately made clear what his rooting interests are when it comes to Chicago sports: pretty much every team except the Cubs.

Obama's Twitter page (@POTUS) indicates that he follows the accounts of the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and White Sox.

The White Sox were delighted:

The Bulls, who visited Obama at the White House in 2009 and toured the residence again in January, also were pleased:

The Bears expressed their gratitude by tweeting a photo of Obama receiving a jersey from Mike Ditka during a White House visit by the 1985 Super Bowl team in 2011:

The Cubs, meanwhile, appeared to be crestfallen:

Of course, given that Obama professes to be a lifelong White Sox fan, perhaps he felt following the Cubs would be unseemly. Just more fuel added to the fire for when the Cubs and Sox meet in interleague play (July 10-12 at Wrigley Field, and Aug. 14-16 at the Cell).

Oh, and the Sky, who clinched their first playoff berth last year and went to the WNBA finals, have a request too:
