A bruised right knee forced Adrian Gonzalez to make a fifth-inning departure from the Dodgers' series finale against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.

Gonzalez fouled a pitch off the inside of his knee in a third-inning at-bat that ended in a strikeout.

Gonzalez played two innings of defense after that, but had to be replaced by Scott Van Slyke in the bottom of the fifth with the Dodgers leading, 1-0.

The Dodgers listed Gonzalez as day-to-day.

Gonzalez leads the Dodgers with 24 home runs and 75 runs batted in. He is batting .286.

Gonzalez doubled in an insurance run in the ninth inning of the Dodgers’ 7-4 victory Wednesday night. He was six for 29 with two doubles on the three-city, eight-game trip that ends Thursday.
