Yasiel Puig was named the National League’s co-player of the week for the week that ended Sunday, an honor he shared with A.J. Pollock of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

This marks the second time Puig has won the award in his career. The first came last year in his first week in the major leagues.

Puig, now 23, is a far more patient hitter than he was back then.

“It’s all the work I’m doing every day,” Puig said. “I get to the ballpark early and I work hard in the batting cage.”

Puig batted .348 (eight for 23) in six games last week, extending his career-long hitting streak to 16 games in the process. The streak ended Sunday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Puig also hit three home runs and drove in 10 runs.

For the season, Puig is hitting .322 with nine home runs and 35 RBIs.

Pollock was 11 for 22 last week. He had a combined seven hits in the Diamondbacks’ victories over the Dodgers on Saturday and Sunday.
