Dodgers’ Hyun-Jin Ryu to miss Wednesday start because of elbow irritation

Reporting from WASHINGTON — Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu has been scratched from his start on Wednesday at Nationals Park because of elbow irritation, the latest bump in his road back from shoulder surgery last season.
Ryu will be shut down until the discomfort passes, President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman said. An MRI of the elbow revealed no notable changes from previous examinations. The team does not have an exact timetable for his return.
The Dodgers have not announced who will start in Ryu’s place.
Ryu, 29, missed all of 2015 with a torn labrum. He labored through a rehabilitation assignment, one interrupted by a bout of shoulder soreness, to return on July 7. In a discouraging outing because of his fading fastball velocity, Ryu gave up six runs and could not finish the fifth inning against San Diego.
