Ronald Belisario’s latest slump comes at worst time for Dodgers

Ronald Belisario, man of mystery.

He’s one the Dodgers would like to figure out before October hits, but good luck with that. Belisario is either very good or very bad. He is seldom anything in between.

And right now he is awful. The worst he’s been throughout his wildly inconsistent season. So much so, that if any of the borderline playoff relievers were really stepping up right now, you’d wonder if his postseason spot was in jeopardy.

He’s probably done too much for the Dodgers to leave him off their playoff roster, but he’d best turn things around. Again.

In his last 11 games, Belisario has a 9.28 ERA and opponents are hitting .341 against him. In his 20 games previous to that, he had an 0.55 ERA and they were hitting .158. The 19 before those, it was 6.62 and .385.

When Belisario is on and his pitches are moving, he’s incredibly hard to hit. When he’s not, and they’re kind of flat, he gets knocked around like Wednesday when he was charged with a season-high five runs on three walks and two hits.

The Dodgers need the Belisario they’ve counted on as set-up man for Kenley Jansen. They’re just running out of time for his pendulum to swing the other way.
