Ah, the memories ...

Remember when it felt like a month for the Kings to score five goals? Back when Jeff Carter was still in Philadelphia and two Canadian kids, Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli, were wading into the Ontario Hockey League pool of talent.

On Tuesday night, the Kings scored five goals before the game was 26 minutes old on their way to domination of the lottery-bound Oilers, beating Edmonton, 6-1, at Staples Center. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick’s shutout bid was foiled when Oilers forward Matt Hendricks scored with 20.9 seconds remaining.

It was the 100th regular-season win with the Kings for Coach Darryl Sutter.

The high-octane line of Pearson-Carter-Toffoli combined for four goals and three assists and is responsible for all but three of the Kings’ 12 goals this season. Pearson scored twice against Edmonton and added an assist for a three-point night, a career high.

Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin, who is out because of an upper-body injury, had declared the kids were “sick,” after Pearson and Toffoli put on a show against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.

So was this … sick-plus?

“It’s definitely carried over,” Pearson said of the line’s chemistry from the Stanley Cup run.

“Even in preseason when we played with each other in the games we had some chemistry going again. The more chemistry you have, the better off you’ll be.”

Pearson continued to build his (early) case for rookie of the year with the three-point showing. He essentially was one-on-three when he scored his second goal, which gave the Kings a 6-0 lead in the third period. It came at 5:59 on the power play as Edmonton goalie Ben Scrivens also lost sight of the puck.

Scrivens, who played part of last season with the Kings, did not start. He replaced Viktor Fasth, who suffered a groin injury a couple minutes after the Kings made it 3-0 on Toffoli’s brilliant short-handed effort, at 9:49 of the first period.

“I couldn’t see that angle,” Pearson said. “But after looking it, I’ll give it to him [Toffoli]. It was a nice shot. I just kind of smirked at him and he knew what I was saying.”

Just think about it. A year and one day ago, Scrivens made his first start for the Kings and recorded a shutout at Florida. Now he is playing for the Oilers, a defensively-challenged team that has allowed 16 goals in three games this season.

The floodgates just opened up on Figueroa.

The Oilers were without two of their high-quality players: Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, both out because of injuries.

But the Kings were without their leading goal-scorer from the playoffs, Marian Gaborik.

Gaborik played in the first three games of the regular season, recording one assist, but suffered an injury “similar” to the one that kept him out of most of the preseason, according to Kings assistant general manager Rob Blake.

That injury lingered beyond day-to-day, as has been the case with the injury to forward Trevor Lewis, who has been out since the season opener. On Tuesday afternoon, the Kings put Lewis on injured reserve, retroactive to Oct. 8.

The two injuries paved the way for the NHL debut of Kings prospect Andy Andreoff, who centered the fourth line with forwards Kyle Clifford and Jordan Nolan. Andreoff played 12-plus minutes and had one shot on goal.

Pearson got off a good line when asked if there was going to be huge party to celebrate Sutter’s 100th win.

“Maybe for him,” Pearson said. “We weren’t invited, that’s for sure.”
