Mets put Lucas Duda on disabled list

The New York Mets put Lucas Duda on the 15-day disabled list because of a stress fracture in his lower back.

Manager Terry Collins estimates the first baseman will be out at least four to six weeks.

Duda is hitting .231 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs after putting up 27 home runs last season and 30 in 2014.

Vogelsong is hit on the head by a pitch

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Ryan Vogelsong was hit in the head by a pitch by Colorado Rockies right-hander Jordan Lyles in the second inning and was taken off the field on a cart.

Vogelsong (1-1) was making his second start this season, filling in because of a rainout between the Pirates and Rockies on Sunday.

The play produced the first run of the game, won by the Pirates, 6-3. Lyles had loaded the bases by walking Sean Rodriguez.

Jeff Locke pinch-ran for Vogelsong and Wilfredo Boscan replaced him on the mound.

Vogelsong gave up two hits and struck out two batters.

Gordon goes on Royals’ DL

All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon was put on the DL by the Kansas City Royals because of a fractured right wrist.

Manager Ned Yost says Gordon will not need surgery but will sit out three to four weeks. Gordon was injured against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday when he collided with Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, who is listed as day to day because of a bruised knee.

Gordon is hitting .211 with four home runs and 10 RBIs.

Kiermaier to have surgery on hand

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier will have surgery Tuesday for two fractures in his left hand and is expected to be sidelined eight to 10 weeks.

Kiermaier, who was injured diving for a flyball Saturday against the Detroit Tigers, was put on the DL. He is hitting .236 with five home runs and 16 RBIs.

Choo returns to disabled list

Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is back on the disabled list after playing only one game in his return to the Texas Rangers.

The Rangers put Choo on the 15-day DL because of a strained left hamstring.

Choo had been out since April 9 because of a strained right calf when he was activated before Friday’s game at Houston. He walked twice in his only at-bats before leaving because of the hamstring issue.

Zimmermann to bypass next start

Jordan Zimmermann is expected to not make at least one start for Detroit, but Manager Brad Ausmus says he’s more optimistic than he was Sunday, when the right-hander left his start in the sixth inning because of a right groin strain.

Ausmus said Monday that Zimmermann has a Grade 1 strain, which is the lowest level.

Chamberlain is put on the disabled list

Reliever Joba Chamberlain was put on the 15-day DL by the Cleveland Indians because of a strained left chest muscle.

The 30-year-old right-hander has a 1.93 earned-run average in 14 appearances with 15 strikeouts and six walks.
