Carl Pettersson wins the RBC Heritage title

Carl Pettersson had another fast start and finished with a two-under-par 69 for a five-shot victory over Zach Johnson on Sunday in the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Pettersson had a run of five consecutive birdies on the front nine during the third round Saturday to move in front. This time, Pettersson birdied three of the first five holes and built a five-shot lead by the turn that he never relinquished. He finished at 14 under.

It was Pettersson’s fifth PGA Tour title and first since the 2010 Canadian Open. He tied Jesper Parnevik for most wins on tour by a Swedish player.

Johnson shot a 70 to finish second at nine under. Top-ranked Luke Donald needed to finish eighth or better to retain his ranking but tied for 37th and will fall behind Rory McIlroy.

Michael Allen won the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am for his second Champions Tour title, closing with a three-under 68 for a three-stroke victory over Kenny Perry at Lutz, Fla.

Allen finished the three-day event at 12 under. He took a five-shot advantage into the final round, tying the tournament record for the largest 36-hole margin.

Perry eagled the par-four first hole and par-five 12th during a round of 65.

Louis Oosthuizen won the Malaysian Open, a week after losing a playoff to Bubba Watson in the Masters.

The South African completed a three-under 69 in the rain-delayed third round, then closed with a 68 for a three-stroke victory over Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher. The 2010 British Open champion finished at 17-under 271 on Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club’s West Course.

Kahne wins Truck Series race

Kasey Kahne celebrated NASCAR’s return to Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway with a win in the Truck Series race.

The track was purchased at auction by Andy Hillenburg, and he successfully brought NASCAR back. The truck race was the first NASCAR-sanctioned event at the Rock since 2004.

Kahne held off James Buescher for the win.

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg won the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai for his first Formula One victory, gambling on a two-stop strategy and managing to hold off the rest of the field on worn tires.

Rosberg, who also captured his first pole on Saturday, finished 20.6 seconds ahead of McLaren driver Jenson Button.

Robert Hight became the fifth funny car driver to win four races in a row, beating John Force, Cruz Pedregon and Ron Capps in the final of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at Concord, N.C.

Hight had a 4.076-second run at 314.83 mph in his John Force Racing Ford Mustang in the unique event featuring racing in four lanes instead of the traditional two.

Spencer Massey won the top-fuel competition, and Greg Anderson topped the pro stock field.

Juan Monaco defeated John Isner, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, in the final match of the U.S. Clay Court Championship at Houston.

Isner would have moved up to No. 8 in the rankings with a victory, but the Argentine broke Isner’s serve three times to hand the American his first clay loss of the year.

Angelique Kerber of Germany beat top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, 6-4, 6-4, to win the e-Boks Open at Copenhagen and her second title of the year.
