Johnson Wagner wins the Sony Open

Johnson Wagner played bogey-free over the last 12 holes and won the Sony Open at Honolulu for his third PGA Tour title.

Six players had a share of the lead Sunday at some point in the final round. Wagner was the only player who stayed there, closing with a three-under-par 67 for a two-shot victory over Carl Pettersson, Sean O’Hair, Harrison Frazar and Charles Howell III.

The win puts Wagner in the Masters. He ended his two-week working vacation in Hawaii with a tie for ninth at Kapalua and a win at Waialae. Before this year, Wagner had only seven top-10 finishes in his career.

Colon, A’s reach one-year deal

The Oakland Athletics and free-agent right-hander Bartolo Colon reached agreement on a one-year deal that will bolster the team’s depleted rotation, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said.

Colon’s contract is pending a physical, the person told the Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had yet to make a formal announcement.

Colon, 38, was an A’s nemesis during his four-year stint with the American League West rival Angels from 2004 to 2007. He posted an 8-10 mark with a 4.00 earned-run average in 29 appearances last year for the New York Yankees in his 14th big league season. He won the 2005 AL Cy Young Award.

Gio Gonzalez agreed to a $42-million, five-year contract with the Washington Nationals, three weeks after the left-hander was acquired in a trade with the A’s.

The deal includes options for two more years. It was the largest guaranteed contract for a pitcher eligible for arbitration for the first time.

Gonzalez, 26, was 16-12 last season — a career high for wins — with a 3.12 ERA in 32 starts and was selected to his first All-Star game. He has reached 200 innings the last two seasons.

The Toronto Blue Jays and center fielder Colby Rasmus greed to a one-year, $2.7-million contract, avoiding arbitration.

Janet Evans qualified for the Olympic swimming trials in the 800-meter freestyle, her second qualifying time in three days.

Evans, 40, finished in 8 minutes 49.05 seconds at the Austin (Texas) Grand Prix. Evans, who still holds the American record set in 1989, won the race by more than 14 seconds.

The mother of two also posted an Olympic-trial qualifying time in the 400 freestyle Friday.

American Lindsey Vonn moved into third place on the World Cup all-time wins list, ending a five-week winless streak with a dominant victory in the super-G at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy and capturing her 47th career title. Vonn finished 0.61 of a second ahead of rival Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, and Tina Maze of Slovenia was third.

Ivica Kostelic of Croatia won a World Cup slalom at Wengen, Switzerland, and closed the gap on overall standings leader Marcel Hirscher, who was disqualified for straddling a gate.

Kostelic was almost flawless in the second run and finished 0.85 of a second ahead of Andre Myhrer of Sweden. Fritz Dopfer of Germany was third.
