Hanley Ramirez shines in debut as Cardinals edge Dodgers, 3-2
Hanley Ramirez made his Dodgers debut memorable Wednesday, delivering two key hits even though the Dodgers’ lost to the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2.
Former Dodger Rafael Furcal singled in the winning run in the 12th inning off Dodgers reliever Jamey Wright.
Three hours after joining the Dodgers in a trade, the three-time All Star tripled off the wall at Busch Stadium in his first at-bat, then scored the Dodgers’ first run on James Loney’s sacrifice fly.
In the sixth inning, Ramirez singled to score Mark Ellis, who had doubled, for the Dodgers’ second run on a night in which temperatures hovered in the high-90s as they have throughout the series.
Dodgers starting pitcher Aaron Harang allowed only two hits in his 7 1/3 innings, but the Cardinals still scored twice.
David Freese scored in the second inning from third base when Yadier Molina grounded into a double play, and Freese doubled in the fifth inning and came home on a sacrifice fly by Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Lohse.
The Miami Marlins traded Ramirez and reliever Randy Choate to the Dodgers late Tuesday night in exchange for starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and minor league pitcher Scott McGough.
Choate also saw action, taking over with one out in the bottom of the 10th. He gave up no hits and struck out one in an inning of work.
