Angels 16, Dodgers 8 (split squad)

AT THE PLATE: Josh Hamilton hit his first homer in an Angels uniform, crushing a Hyun-Jin Ryu slider for a two-run shot to right-center in the first, and singled in the third, seeing 16 pitches in two at-bats. Peter Bourjos capped a seven-run third with a three-run triple. Angels utility infield candidates Luis Rodriguez, Luis Jimenez and Andrew Romine combined for seven hits. Luis Cruz had three hits and two RBIs for the Dodgers.

ON THE MOUND: Angels reliever Kevin Jepsen had a rocky spring debut, allowing two runs and three hits in the third. Ryu, the South Korean left-hander, looked sharp at times, fooling Bourjos badly with a third-strike changeup and whiffing Chris Iannetta in the first. But he hung the slider to Hamilton and gave up three straight singles in the second.

EXTRA BASES: The best defensive plays of the game were made by Angels third baseman Luis Jimenez, who made a diving backhand stop of Skip Schumaker’s grounder to start a double play in the third, and Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers right fielder, who threw out Luis Rodriguez at third base in the second.
