Kevin Streelman wins Tampa Bay Championship

Kevin Streelman finally won on the PGA Tour with a game that looked as if he had done this many times before.

Streelman didn’t make a bogey over the final 37 holes on the tough Copperhead course at Innisbrook. He didn’t miss a shot over the last 11 holes on his way to a four-under-par 67 for a two-shot win in the Tampa Bay Championship at Palm Harbor, Fla.

Boo Weekley, who teed off three hours before the leaders, had a tournament-best 63 and waited to see if that would be enough.

Streelman, locked in a battle with Justin Leonard over the final hour, came up with one clutch shot after another. He hit five-iron into six feet on the par-three 13th hole to take the lead for good. He finished at 10-under 274.

Stacy Lewis won the LPGA Founders Cup at Phoenix to jump to No. 1 in the world, taking advantage of Ai Miyazato’s collapse on the 16th hole.

The 28-year-old Lewis won for the seventh time in her LPGA Tour career to end Yani Tseng’s 109-week run at No. 1.

Lewis closed with an eight-under 64 to finish with a tournament-record 23-under 265 total. Miyazato finished second, three strokes back after a 71.

Bright Thought set a world record of 2 minutes 22.72 seconds for a 11/2-mile turf race at Santa Anita.

The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred won the $150,000 San Luis Rey Stakes by 31/4 lengths Saturday in a time that was originally announced as a stakes and track record. The delay in recognizing it as a world record was because the first three-eighths of a mile in the race were run downhill.

A review of previous record holders at the distance led to confirmation of it as a world mark on Sunday by the American Racing Manual, the official record keeper for U.S. racing.

The New York Yankees’ Mark Teixeira said he has a partially torn tendon sheath in his right wrist and didn’t rule out missing up to two months of the regular season.

The first baseman rejoined the Yankees at spring training after being injured March 5 while with the U.S. team at the World Baseball Classic. The injury initially was announced as a strained wrist.

The NBA fined Milwaukee Bucks forward Larry Sanders $50,000 for using offensive language and criticizing officials.

Sanders was displeased after being whistled for a foul on Miami’s LeBron James with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter of Milwaukee’s 107-94 loss to the Heat on Friday night. He received two technicals and was ejected after directing a derogatory term at the referees.

Kasey Kahne won his first Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Sunday after Brad Keselowski struggled on the final restart.

Tempers flared after the race when Joey Logano leaned inside the car window of former teammate Denny Hamlin to complain about Hamlin’s spinning him during the race. At the time, Logano was racing Jeff Gordon for the lead.

Logano was pulled away from Hamlin’s car by crew members for both drivers in a classic post-Bristol clash that delighted the crowd. “They’re fighting! It’s Bristol!” yelled Clint Bowyer, who saw the action on the infield big screen.

Nobody came close to Kahne, who drove his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to the win by 1.7 seconds. Hendrick drivers have now won two of the first four races this season.

Kyle Busch snagged second from Keselowski, who took over the Sprint Cup Series points lead.

Kimi Raikkonen won Formula One’s season-opening Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne, jump-starting Lotus’ bid to challenge the series’ bigger teams for the 2013 championship.

Raikkonen took the lead for good on Lap 43 of 58 in a race that had seven leaders, and had the luxury of driving conservatively in the closing laps while Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel scrambled in vain to keep up.

Antron Brown used the fastest pass of the day to edge Clay Millican in the top-fuel final in the NHRA’s Gatornationals at Gainesville, Fla. It could be a huge turning point for the defending top-fuel champion, who endured a scary wreck at Pomona on Feb. 17 and was eliminated in the semifinals two weeks ago at Phoenix.

Johnny Gray beat Del Worsham to win the funny car division, and Allen Johnson won the pro stock class.
