Kobe Bryant misses practice with injury to left foot

Share

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant missed morning practice Friday because of an injury to his left foot, but team officials said they don’t consider it serious.

The Lakers didn’t provide details on how the injury happened, but officials said they expect that Bryant will take part in Friday’s evening practice, scheduled for between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the team’s facility in El Segundo.

Bryant didn’t speak to reporters after the Friday morning session.

Aside from this injury, Bryant has appeared in good health to open training camp. In the portions of practice open to the media, he has participated in all the drills, and dunked on Chris Douglas-Roberts during Tuesday’s practice.

He also revealed this week that he had decided against having knee surgery in Germany, the same operation he had during the 2011 off-season.

Coach Mike Brown expressed little concern about Bryant’s status.

“You would have to ask Gary [Vitti],” Brown said of the Lakers’ trainer. “My take on this is Gary has a job to do. He’s our head trainer. I just follow his lead. He knows a lot more than me when it comes to that stuff. I’m OK not knowing what’s going on. I just want to know if a guy can go or not. If he can go, great. If he can’t go, great.”
