Photo caption contest: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sits on an airplane

Don’t let the headline fool you.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar isn’t making the third “Airplane!”movie. But when the former Lakers center tweeted a picture of himself sitting on a plane with actor Danny DeVito, it only brought nostalgic reminders about Abdul-Jabbar’s role in the 1980’s comedy.

Some may recall Abdul-Jabbar’s clever word play as Roger Murdock when he and his co-pilots, Clarence Oveur and Victor Basta, prepared for takeoff.

“We have clearance, Clarence,” Abdul-Jabbar said as Murdock.

“Roger, Roger,” Peter Graves said as Oveur. “What’s our vector, Victor?”

Some may remember Abdul-Jabbar getting defensive after a little boy named Joey tells him that his dad often questions Abdul-Jabbar’s on-court effort.

“I think you’re the greatest but my dad says you don’t work hard enough on defense,” Joey said. “And he says lots of times you don’t even run down the court and you don’t even try except during the playoffs.

“The hell I don’t,” Abdul Jabbar said, raising his voice. “Listen kid, I’ve been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I’m out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag [Bill] Walton up and down the court for 48 minutes.”

And some may just wonder what Abdul-Jabbar and Devito are saying to each other. Are they reciting old “Airplane!” lines? Are they coming up with ones that could make the script of a third “Airplane!” movie. Or are they saying nothing at all?

“The people you meet on airplanes can make for interesting conversation!” Abdul-Jabbar tweeted.

And that’s why we want to see what captions you come up with for this photo.
