More gold for Felix, Richards-Ross in 1,600-meter relay

LONDON -- The U.S. women’s 1,600-meter relay team cruised to a gold medal Saturday with remarkable ease, giving Allyson Felix of Los Angeles her third gold medal of the London Olympics and Sanya Richards-Ross her second gold.

The quartet of DeeDee Trotter, Felix, Francena McCorory and Richards-Ross won in 3 minutes 16.87 seconds, launched by a strong opening leg by Trotter and gaining strength with each leg.

Felix ran a 48.85-second lap, McCorory a 49.39 and Richards-Ross a 49.07.

Felix previously won gold in the 200- and the 400-meter relay. Richards previously won the 400. Trotter took bronze in the 400.

Russia won the silver medal Saturday in a time of 3:20.23 and a fast-closing Jamaican quartet took third in 3:20.95.
