Martina Hingis and mom accused of attacking estranged husband
Tennis player Martina Hingis and her mother-coach, Melanie Molitor, have been accused of attacking Hingis’ estranged husband, according to several European publications. Hingis’ boyfriend, Mario Widmer, was also involved in the attack, the reports said.
Thibault Hutin, a French horse show jumper involved in divorce proceedings with Hingis, says Hingis, Molitor and Widmer came to his home Monday. After an argument, Molitor and Widmer hit him with a DVD player, Hutin said according to the reports.
Hutin plans to return to Paris from Switzerland, where Hingis and her mother live.
After a five-year retirement from tennis, Hingis played a few WTA-level events in doubles this summer, including in Carlsbad and at the U.S. Open. She said she plans to continue a comeback in doubles but has no plans to return to singles competition.
Hingis, 32, said at the U.S. Open that the work needed to be competitive at the singles level was too much for her at this point.
