Real Salt Lake, third in the conference, can clinch a berth in the postseason with a win in this match. This is the second regular-season meeting between the clubs; Chivas USA won, 1-0, on June 28 at StubHub Center on a goal by Erick Torres, the team’s leading scorer. Chivas USA most recently lost 4-2 to the Seattle Sounders a week ago, in which Torres scored his 15th goal of the season. Real Salt Lake is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Whitecaps in Vancouver last weekend.
