Here are the prospective U.S. starters for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil:

TIM HOWARD Goalkeeper

Age: 35. Club team: Everton (England).

Caps: 100. Goals: 0.

On his second World Cup team ... Tied for second in national team history with 100 caps for a goalkeeper ... His 54 wins are the most by an American keeper.

FABIAN JOHNSON Right back

Age: 26. Club team: Hoffenheim (Germany).

Caps: 22. Goals: 1.

Playing in his first World Cup after coming back from injury … German-born player made his U.S. debut in 2011 … Started eight times for the U.S. in both 2012 and 2013.

MATT BESLER Center back

Age: 27. Club team: Sporting Kansas City.

Caps: 17. Goals: 0.

Playing in his first World Cup … Made his debut with the U.S. in 2013 and quickly earned a job at center back, where he started 11 games … Anchored a defense that did not allow a goal at home in World Cup qualifying.

GEOFF CAMERON Center back

Age: 28. Club team: Stoke City (England).

Caps: 27. Goals: 1.

Playing in his first World Cup … A converted midfielder, he set career highs with 12 appearances and 10 starts for the national team in 2013.

DaMARCUS BEASLEY Left back

Age: 32. Club team: Puebla (Mexico).

Caps: 116. Goals: 17.

With his first appearance in Brazil, will become the first American to play in four World Cups … Started a team-high 17 games last year … Is fifth on the all-time U.S. list with 116 caps.

ALEJANDO BEDOYA Midfielder

Age: 27. Club team: Nantes (France).

Caps: 28. Goals: 1.

Making his first World Cup appearance … Scored five times in 23 games for Nantes of France’s Ligue 1 last season … Played in a career-high 12 games for the U.S. in 2013, scoring his only international goal in a friendly with Guatemala.

KYLE BECKERMAN Midfielder

Age: 32. Club team: Real Salt Lake.

Caps: 37. Goals: 1.

On his first World Cup team … Has played 335 games in Major League Soccer, second all-time among midfielders … Appeared in a career-high 10 games for the U.S. in 2013, starting twice in World Cup qualifying.

JERMAINE JONES Midfielder

Age: 32. Club team: Besiktas (Turkey).

Caps: 42. Goals: 2.

Playing in his first World Cup … Physical midfielder is one of five German nationals on the U.S. team … Started a career-high 12 games for the U.S. in 2013.

MICHAEL BRADLEY Midfielder

Age: 26. Club team: Toronto FC.

Caps: 86. Goals: 12.

Playing in his second World Cup … Played every minute in South Africa four years ago, scoring once … His 86 appearances rank in the top 20 all-time for the national team … His 10 career assists are 12th-best in U.S. history … The second modern-era American to play in Italy’s Serie A, he also played in top leagues in the Netherlands, Germany and England before returning to MLS this season.

CLINT DEMPSEY Forward

Age: 31. Club team: Seattle.

Caps: 105. Goals: 37.

The team captain, he will be appearing in his third World Cup … Has two World Cup goals including one in South Africa, where he played all 390 minutes … His 37 goals are second all-time by an American while his 105 caps are 10th-best in history.

JOZY ALTIDORE Forward

Age: 24. Club team: Sunderland (England).

Caps: 70. Goals: 23.

Playing in his second World Cup … Started all four games in South Africa in 2010 … His 23 goals place him sixth on the all-time U.S. list … Was U.S. Soccer’s male athlete of the year in 2013 with eight goals in 14 appearances.

Caps: 4. Goals: 0.

Physical, German-born defender is on his first World Cup team … Made his senior debut for the U.S. in 2013, starting twice … Played on age-group national teams for both the U.S. and Germany.

TIMOTHY CHANDLER Defender

Age: 24. Club team: Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany).

Caps: 13. Goals: 0.

German-born defender is playing on his first World Cup team … Missed a chunk of the season after tearing meniscus in his left knee in February … Started the first World Cup qualifier in Honduras in 2013, but that was his only appearance for the national team last year.

BRAD DAVIS Midfielder

Age: 32. Club team: Houston.

Caps: 16. Goals: 0.

Playing in his first World Cup … Assisted on two of the three U.S. goals in a 3-2 win over Panama in the final game of World Cup qualifying … Led Houston to two MLS crowns and was runner-up for league MVP in 2011.

MIX DISKERUD Midfielder

Age: 23. Club team: Rosenborg (Norway).

Caps: 20. Goals: 3.

Appearing in his first World Cup … Norwegian-born midfielder played in 13 of the final 14 games the U.S. played last season, scoring his second international goal … Played for the U.S. U-23 team in Olympic qualifying.

JULIAN GREEN Midfielder

Age: 19 Club team: Bayern Munich (Germany).

Caps: 2. Goals: 0.

Youngest player on the U.S. team will be appearing in his first World Cup … Born in Tampa, he moved to Germany when he was 2 … Both his national team appearances came off the bench … Made his national team debut against Mexico in April.

OMAR GONZALEZ Defender

Age: 25. Club team: Galaxy.

Caps: 20. Goals: 0.

Appearing in his first World Cup … Was MLS Rookie of the Year and Defender of the Year for the Galaxy … Helped team to consecutive MLS titles … Tallest U.S. player at 6-5 … Started 13 times at center back in 2013.

BRAD GUZAN Goalkeeper

Age: 29. Club team: Aston Villa (England).

Caps: 25. Goals: 0.

Was the backup keeper to Tim Howard in the 2010 World Cup but didn’t appear in a game … Recorded shutouts in two of the three games he started for the U.S. in 2013, including a crucial scoreless draw in Mexico City during World Cup qualifying … Played a career-high 38 games for Aston Villa last season … Was MLS Goalkeeper of the Year for Chivas USA in 2007.

ARON JOHANNSSON Forward

Age: 23. Club team: AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands).

Caps: 8. Goals: 2.

Making his first appearance at a World Cup … Born in Alabama but reared in Iceland … Made his first appearance for the U.S. in August 2013 … Scored his first international goal in stoppage time to beat Panama in World Cup qualifying … Had 24 goals in 48 games in all competitions for AZ Alkmaar of the Dutch Eredivisie last season.

NICK RIMANDO Goalkeeper

Age: 34. Club team: Real Salt Lake.

Caps: 14. Goals: 0.

On his first World Cup team … Third-choice goalkeeper won all six games played in last season, allowing just four goals … In 2013 became the second keeper in MLS history with 100 regular-season shutouts.

CHRIS WONDOLOWSKI Forward

Age: 31. Club team: San Jose.

Caps: 21. Goals: 9.

Making his first World Cup appearance … Scored six goals in a three-game span for the U.S. last summer … Shares MLS regular-season record with 27 goals.

DE ANDRE YEDLIN Defender

On his first World Cup team … Made his senior international debut as a substitute in February against South Korea at the StubHub Center … Has never started a game for the senior national team.

GRAHAM ZUSI Midfielder
