Maybe now Cristiano Ronaldo will apologize for throwing a reporter’s microphone into a lake

Cristiano Ronaldo probably didn’t want to be bothered with questions earlier Wednesday. Not after his disappointing showing for Portugal in Euro 2016 at that point. And not while he was trying to enjoy a leisurely stroll around a lake with his teammates ahead of their final group match against Hungary in Lyon, France, later that day.

Uh-oh, looks like one reporter decided to take his chances. Let’s watch and see what happens:

Well, Diogo Torres of Portugal’s CMTV can’t say we didn’t warn him. He must have really asked a hard-hitting question to cause Ronaldo to grab the microphone, throw it in the lake behind the team’s hotel and just keep walking.

The question, asked in Portuguese, translates to “Are you ready for the game today?”

Maybe the soccer star overreacted just a tad, even if he has gone scoreless and his team is winless and facing possible elimination at Euro 2016.

“I’m not sure why he did it,” the reporter, Diogo Torres of Portugal’s CMTV, said. “I think it was a momentary thing. I think he would not have done it if he had thought about it.

“We are a TV channel of a major newspaper in Portugal. We produce a lot of news about him. Some of it he doesn’t like. Perhaps that’s why he did it. But it wasn’t a personal thing.”

Torres said he has yet to receive an apology from Ronaldo or the team.

But he is traveling with the team back to Portugal when they’re finished playing, so maybe it will happen then.

Or maybe even more station equipment will be hurled into another body of water.

But perhaps by then Ronaldo will be in a better mood – he scored two goals and had an assist Wednesday as Portugal stayed alive in the tournament with a 3-3 tie with Hungary.
