Cardinals’ Tony Cruz goes to bat as Matthew McConaughey thumps chest
St. Louis Cardinals backup catcher Tony Cruz made an unusual selection for his walk-up music when he bats, but it kind of works and definitely got noticed.
Cruz strolled to the plate Tuesday night to the sound of Matthew McConaughey thumping his chest while humming from the Martin Scorsese film "The Wolf of Wall Street."
Cruz went to bat with the Cards down five runs to the Tampa Bay Rays with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
In an interview, the cast of “Wolf” said McConaughey improvised the thumping scene and they were surprised when he started doing it.
McConaughey could not be reached for comment.
For fans of the film, the walk up music was fantastic, but for everyone else, it was confusing.
