Lions’ Joseph Fauria sprains ankle stopping dog from urinating in house

Obviously it's not funny that Detroit tight end Joseph Fauria sprained his ankle last week and missed Sunday's game against the New York Jets.

But the way he got hurt -- well, that's pretty funny.

Coach Jim Caldwell first announced Fauria's injury before practice last Thursday, using as vague terms as possible.

"One of those innocent things,” Caldwell said of the then-undisclosed mishap. “I guess [it happened] around the house and ended up misstepping and twisting his ankle.”

Fauria tweeted about the injury Friday but didn't shed a whole lot of light on the situation. "I am working hard to return ASAP. For those who didn't hear, I injured my ankle in a freak fall at home. Nothing more to the story."

Ah, but there was more to the story. Fauria elaborated a bit to reporters on Monday: "[My dog] did something bad and ran away from me. I wasn't running down the stairs, but I was going a little faster than usual and I missed the last two steps.”

Finally the Lions tweeted out the official story the same day. Fauria followed an hour later with a request on behalf of Lil' Rufio that no one could possibly refuse -- at least not after looking at the photo that accompanied it:
