Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has found himself on the defensive after announcing on Twitter he had seen and enjoyed the film "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Wilson, a Super Bowl-winning, star quarterback in the NFL, is also an outspoken Christian who regularly shares his views on religion and Bible verses on social media.

Because of his persona, fans and others blasted Wilson for seeing a screening of the film -- which is based on the bestselling sadomasochistic romance novel -- Thursday night.

The film, which already made $8.6 million from late-night showings on Thursday, has been heavily criticized for its heavily sexual theme and treatment of women.

Wilson obviously noticed the backlash to his tweet and defended himself.

Wilson followed up that tweet with one about the ultra-violent 1983 gangster film "Scarface."
