USC football: Ed Orgeron concerned about kicking

USC kicker Andre Heidari appeared to have corrected problems with his mechanics.
The junior came back from two missed field-goal tries in the Trojans’ 14-10 loss at Notre Dame on Oct. 19 and made four of five tries in USC’s 19-3 victory the next week over Utah. He also converted his only field-goal try in USC’s 31-14 victory at Oregon State.
But interim Coach Ed Orgeron acknowledged concern about Heidari’s missing a field-goal try and an extra-point try in the Trojans’ 62-28 victory at California.
“It’s always a concern when we don’t make the kicks we’re supposed to,” Orgeron said Sunday during a teleconference with reporters.
After the Notre Dame loss, Orgeron re-opened the kicking competition. Heidari staved off a challenge from walk-ons Alex Wood and Craig McMahon.
Orgeron said there had been no thought of opening the competition again.
The Trojans play fifth-ranked Stanford on Saturday at the Coliseum.
