UCLA plays Saturdays, but they school has some former players who take the field Sundays. Here’s a weekly blog featuring former Bruins and what they did in their NFL games:

Akeem Ayers, fourth-year linebacker for the Tennessee Titans: Ayers was a healthy scratch in the team’s 26-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Anthony Barr, rookie linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings: The first-round pick recorded seven tackles in the Vikings’ 34-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Nate Chandler, third-year offensive tackle for the Carolina Panthers: Chandler started at right tackle after returning from a knee injury, and the Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-14.

Derrick Coleman, third-year fullback for the Seattle Seahawks: Caught a 15-year touchdown pass in the Seahawks’ 36-16 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.

Joseph Fauria, second-year tight end for the Detroit Lions: Detroit plays the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

Kai Forbath, third-year kicker for the Washington Redskins: Forbath had only one opportunity to kick the ball Sunday and it didn’t go well. After barely surviving a training camp battle with a rookie, he had a point-after-touchdown try blocked in the Redskins’ 17-6 loss to the Houston Texans.

Cory Harkey, third-year tight end for the Rams: Harkey finished with one catch for four yards in the Rams’ 35-6 loss to the Vikings.

Mike Harris, third-year offensive tackle for the Vikings: Harris, who was questionable before the game because of a shoulder injury, was active but didn’t play any snaps.

Datone Jones, second-year defensive end for the Packers: Recorded five tackles in the team’s loss to the Seahawks.

Maurice Jones-Drew, ninth-year running back for the Oakland Raiders: Jones-Drew had a rough game running the ball. He finished with 11 yards in nine carries and would have finished with negative yards if it wasn’t for a 12-yard run late in the fourth quarter. He caught two passes, but also had a fumble (which was recovered) in the Raiders’ 19-14 loss to the New York Jets.

Mercedes Lewis, ninth-year tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars nearly pulled off the upset but fell apart in the fourth quarter in a 34-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Lewis had six catches for 35 yards.

Jeff Locke, second-year punter for the Vikings: The Vikings blew out the Rams, 34-6, and Locke still averaged 47.4 yards per punt on five tries.

Cassius Marsh, rookie defensive end for the Seahawks: Marsh didn’t record any stats in Seattle’s victory over the Packers.

Rahim Moore, fourth-year free safety for the Denver Broncos: Playing in the Sunday Night Football game, Moore intercepted a pass in the first quarter that set up the Broncos for their first touchdown of the game. He also made three tackles, and Denver won, 31-24.

Logan Paulsen, fifth-year tight end for the Redskins: Paulsen caught two passes for three yards in the loss to the Texans.

Matthew Slater, seventh-year receiver for the New England Patriots: The Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins, 33-20, and Slater didn’t catch a pass. Slater, who was selected a team captain last week, also returned kicks. His career kick return average, 18.03 yards, is second-lowest of active players with 30 returns or more.

Xavier Su’a-Filo, rookie offensive guard for the Texans: Houston beat the Redskins, but Su’a-Filo didn’t play much. He played briefly as the sixth offensive lineman in jumbo sets.

Alterraun Verner, fifth-year cornerback for the Buccaneers: In his first game with his new team, Verner finished with six tackles in Tampa Bay’s 20-14 loss to the Panthers.

Christian Yount, fourth-year center for the Cleveland Browns: Yount is the Brown’s long snapper, a position that doesn’t usually have stats or attention. In the Browns’ 30-27 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, though, Yount had a false-start penalty.

Two former Bruins, rookie linebacker Jordan Zumwalt of the Steelers and rookie receiver Shaquelle Evans of the Jets, are on injured reserve and will not play this season.
