Rick Neuheisel experienced every parent’s dream/potential nightmare Saturday night when his son, Jerry, was forced into UCLA’s game against Texas after a first-quarter injury to starter Brett Hundley.

The best news was the Pac-12 Network recorded it, edited it and produced it.

The differences between Rick and every other Saturday soccer parent were many:

-- Rick is the former UCLA coach who brought Jerry to Westwood with the hope of some day coaching him. Instead, Rick Neuheisel was fired three years ago and replaced by Jim Mora.

Neuheisel also recruited Hundley, who became UCLA’s starter and sent Jerry to the bench.

-- Saturday’s game was on national television and being monitored closely by Rick Neuheisel, now an analyst for the Pac-12 Network.

Neuheisel was in the network’s San Francisco studio when Jerry Neuheisel entered the game. Network staffers quickly fixed cameras on a proud father as he watched his son lead UCLA to a 20-17 victory.

Neuheisel expressed the gamut of emotions as he winced and cheered his child along

At the end, Rick Neuheisel says to anyone who will listen “How about that? How about that? How cool was that?”

Very cool.
