Seven USC players are selected to the Pac-12 first team
USC receiver Marqise Lee and linebacker Dion Bailey were selected as Pac-12 Conference offensive and defensive freshmen of the year, the league announced Monday.
The Trojans were not eligible to win the conference title, but USC had more players voted to the all-conference team than any other school.
Receiver Robert Woods, the only player in the conference to appear on every coach’s first team, was one of seven USC players voted to the top squad. Others were junior offensive tackle Matt Kalil, junior defensive end Nick Perry, junior safety T.J. McDonald, sophomore cornerback Nickell Robey, freshman kicker Andre Heidari and senior fullback/special-teams player Rhett Ellison.
Lee, Bailey, junior quarterback Matt Barkley, junior center Khaled Holmes and junior defensive end Wes Horton were voted to the second team.
Lee, who shared the honor as top freshman on offense with Oregon running back De’Anthony Thomas, caught 73 passes for 1,143 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Bailey tied for the team lead with 81 tackles, including two sacks. He also intercepted two passes for the Trojans, who finished 10-2 after Saturday’s 50-0 victory over UCLA.
UCLA running back Derrick Coleman was voted to the second team as a special-teams player.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was offensive player of the year and California linebacker Mychal Kendricks was defensive player of the year.
Stanford’s David Shaw was coach of the year.
