Update: Washington and USC were in a five-way tied for fifth place in the Pac-12 Conference, which indicates how evenly matched so many teams in the league are. While the first four — Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon and UCLA — seem on their way to receiving some sort of NCAA tournament bid (automatic or at-large) the Huskies and Trojans will most likely need to win the Pac-12 tournament and so the point of the rest of the regular season may be only to gain momentum for that tournament that is moving to Las Vegas for the first time. One key to beating the Huskies is to get them to turn the ball over. In losses to UCLA last Thursday, Arizona and Oregon, Washington had 57 turnovers that resulted in 66 points for those three teams. Since Washington lost by only a combined seven points against those top conference teams it’s obvious why Coach Lorenzo Romar said, “We have to protect the ball.” All the Trojans practiced Saturday. Point guard Jio Fontan (flu) and forward Aaron Fuller (sprained ankle) had missed practice time before Thursday’s 72-68 win over Washington State.
