Chip Kelly is fired in Philadelphia, and what’s a USC fan to think?

What might’ve been?

That must be what some USC fans are thinking after the Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday that coach Chip Kelly has been fired.

The Eagles are 6-9 as they head into Week 17. Kelly, in his third season as coach, finished 10-6 in his first two seasons.

There was plenty of speculation that USC might interview Kelly for its coaching position after Pat Haden fired Steve Sarkisian in October.

Both Haden and Kelly said that an interview never took place.

Haden announced that he hired interim Coach Clay Helton on Nov. 30, two days after USC defeated UCLA to win the Pac-12 South division title.

In four seasons at Oregon, Kelly led the Ducks to a 46-7 record and made appearances in a BCS national championship game, two Rose Bowls and a Fiesta Bowl.
