USC freshmen preview: Tailback Ronald Jones II will make a run

This month we are previewing each USC freshman who will join the team in training camp.

Player: Ronald Jones II

Position: Tailback

Number: 25

Height: 6 feet

Weight: 185 pounds

High school: McKinney (Texas) North

Hometown: McKinney, Texas

High school: Jones amassed 4,935 yards and rushed for 76 touchdowns in three seasons. As a senior in 2014, he averaged 8.4 yards per carry and ran for 28 touchdowns. He also clocked a time of 10.83 seconds in the 100-meter dash for the track team.

USC tailback breakdown: With workhorse Javorius Allen gone to the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, Trojans coaches are hoping Jones will provide a breakaway threat in a tailback corps that includes junior Justin Davis, senior Tre Madden and incoming freshmen Dominic Davis and Aca’Cedric Ware. Allen’s longest run from scrimmage last season covered 53 yards, Justin Davis’ 47.

Season prediction for Jones: Will become part of the tailback rotation, with an opportunity to break out.
