Public memorial service for Bob Boyd set for April 26 at Galen Center

A public memorial service for former USC basketball coach Bob Boyd will be held April 26 at the Galen Center, the school announced.

Boyd, who played at USC and coached the Trojans from 1967 to 1979, died in January at age 84.

College basketball coaches Tim Floyd and Larry Eustachy are among those expected to speak at the event, which begins at 2 p.m. A reception will follow.

Boyd played for the Trojans from 1950 to 1952. He was hired by USC as coach in 1967 after coaching in high school, junior college and at Seattle University.

He compiled a 216-131 record at USC and guided the Trojans to the 1979 NCAA tournament.

Boyd later coached at Mississippi State, Riverside Community College and Chapman University and was an assistant at Louisiana State and Utah State.
