USC will have a new look when it plays Colorado on Saturday at the Coliseum.
And traditionalists will be left to judge whether they approve.
The Trojans will don metallic-tinted helmets with chrome facemasks.
“It’s a chance to put a modern touch to a classic look,” a USC athletic department spokesman said.
It is the first change to USC’s classic uniform since the Trojans wore cardinal-and-metallic-silver cleats during the 2012 season. The Trojans began that season ranked No. 1 and ended with an embarrassing loss in the Sun Bowl.
The Trojans are 4-2 overall, 3-1 in the Pac-12 Conference.
