USC working on hand placement to reduce penalties

No Pac-12 Conference team has committed more penalties through six games than USC except UCLA.
The Trojans are averaging 7 1/2 penalties a game, having drawn 45 penalties for 437 yards.
Against Notre Dame on Saturday, they were flagged a season-high 10 times for 105 yards.
Interim Coach Clay Helton said Wednesday that an emphasis has been put on hand placement.
“You look at three of the key penalties in that game, and it’s where your hands are,” Helton said.
Receiver De’Quan Hampton and defensive backs Kevon Seymour and Adoree’ Jackson each were called for pass interference.
The offensive line accounted for five penalties: three false starts, a personal foul and a holding call.
Utah is the least-penalized team in the Pac-12, with an average of 4.5 penalties a game. USC plays the Utes on Saturday at the Coliseum.
