2005 Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé
Zesty citrus, slate, minerals -- this is a Chardonnay that has everything going for it. Although it comes from a humbler appellation, in the hands of one of Burgundy’s premier winemakers (who is also one of the region’s leading proponents of biodynamic farming) this Macon is a graceful beauty. It’s also better than many Chardonnays that are twice the price.
This bottle would be a beautiful match for sashimi, especially hamachi, or with some simple seared scallops. It also plays well with lobster and pretty much anything from the sea.
