Pet of the Week: Colby

Share

Colby is a cuddly bundle of fur.

Last week, this 3-year-old Maltese mix was sadly surrendered by his owners, who described him as calm, quiet, and playful. They further indicated he is great with children and being left alone, and “does OK” with other animals. However, they cited their lack of time to address persistent issues of house-training, or marking, as the reason for relinquishing this family pet.

The Maltese breed is well known for a companionable nature, hypoallergenic non-shedding coat and general absence of serious health problems. Colby immediately became a shelter favorite. He is enthusiastic about his walks, and his affectionate personality makes him the ultimate lapdog.

Already neutered, he is healthy — aside from being overweight at 20 pounds. With proper and consistent training, the marking behavior can probably be addressed.
