Iowa’s State Fair earns the crown for this state’s biggest event. Held in Des Moines in mid-August, attendance is approximately 1.1 million, per the study.
Every state has one event that puts it on the map for tourists and residents alike. Texas has SXSW, Tennessee has Bonnaroo, Colorado has the Great American Beer Fest. Can you guess Illinois’ claim to state fame annual event? GenFare, a transit fare management company based in Elk Grove, Ill., commissioned a study to determine the largest events in all 50 states. According to a Chicago spokesperson for GenFare, “the idea behind the study was to identify which events draw the biggest crowds since often times ... many of these event attendees are taking mass transit to this destination.” Click through to find out which Midwest events get the crowds rolling in.
