Sing with a Von Trapp on ‘Sound of Music’-inspired Danube River cruise

Share

If you’ve ever wanted to sing “Do-Re-Mi” in the very spot where “The Sound of Music” song was filmed, now’s your chance.

Elisabeth von Trapp, granddaughter of Maria and Baron von Trapp (yes, they were real people), will lead a sing-along for river cruise passengers at the Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg, Austria.

She’ll also perform songs from the movie as well as Gregorian chants, hymns and other musical arrangements at the chapel in Mirabell.

It’s all part of Danube River cruises offered this summer by the Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection.

The Von Trapp events have been planned to mark the 50th anniversary of the popular Julie Andrews film that tells a love story amid the backdrop of Austria falling under Nazi control during World War II.

Elisabeth Von Trapp was born and raised in Vermont, where the family eventually settled and opened a lodge.

The eight-day Enchanting Danube cruise starts in Budapest, Hungary, and stops at Vienna, Durnstein and Salzburg in Austria before ending in Passau, Germany.

Cruises are offered on dates from May through August. Prices start at $2,899 per person, based on double occupancy. You can save up to $600 per couple if you reserve before March 31.

In addition, Von Trapp will appear on board for a welcome concert on river cruises that depart July 26 and Aug. 2. Prices start at $3,899 per person, based on double occupancy.
