Beach party and discount rooms make for good deal at this Carlsbad inn

It’s the little things that add up to make this hotel deal a sweet steal. West Inn & Suites in Carlsbad, Calif., marks its first decade with rooms starting at $139 and a pop-up beach party for you and your family.
The deal: With this Throw Back hotel offer, you can snag a king deluxe room for $139, a double king deluxe or suite for $149 and a double king suite for $169. Use the promotion code “throw” when making a reservation online or by phone.
Room prices above don’t include tax, but they do include:
-- Pop Up Beach Party, where guests are set up with boogie boards, umbrellas, towels, sand toys and a cooler,
-- daily breakfast buffet,
-- shuttle service to places within 5 miles of the hotel (like Legoland, so you can save on parking),
-- free movie rentals and Internet,
-- hotel events like wine pours, and cookies and milk, and
-- two tickets to the Museum of Making Music at 5790 Armada Drive in Carlsbad (general admission costs $10 for adults).
The deal requires a two-night minimum stay, but Friday night check-in doesn’t count, so choose dates carefully.
When: The offer is good for stays through Nov. 23.
Tested: I found availability online Nov. 12 and 13 (Veterans Day weekend) for $149 a night for a suite that sleeps two adults and two children. It includes a king-size bed plus a pull-out couch, refrigerator, microwave and other amenities. Without the discount the suite costs $169. Tax is extra; no resort fee at this hotel.
