Brazil: Journey deep into the Amazon aboard a river cruise

Share

Rainforest Cruises takes passengers deep into Brazil’s Central Amazon Conservation Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its biodiversity and threatened species such as the river dolphin.

The seven-day trip departs from (and returns to) Manaus on the Rio Negro, a major tributary of the Amazon. Highlights include daily rainforest walks and stops at blackwater-flooded forests; Lago Turia, a giant lake with a river island; the Rio Jaueperi, with opportunities for fishing — piranhas! — and swimming in some of the world’s cleanest water; and a visit to the Lago Janauari Ecological Park.

Accommodations are onboard the Tucano, designed to resemble a 19th century river steamer. All cabins are air conditioned and have a private bathroom. An eight-day excursion covers the same distance, but stays an additional night in the Rio Jaueperi area.
