A promising new lodging option is gearing up just outside the west entrance to Yosemite, where quality accommodations are always at a premium.

Rush Creek Lodge, purportedly the first new resort in the Yosemite region in more than 25 years, opens in June 2016 and has begun taking reservations.

The resort offers 143 rooms, suites and hillside villas, each with a deck and most providing a spot to watch Sierra sunsets.

On 20 acres at the doorstep to the park, Rush Creek Lodge features a main lodge, restaurant and tavern, central swimming pool and hot tub area with poolside bar. The property also features outdoor seating areas and fireplaces, as well as a gold-panning stream and a fly-casting pond.

With event space for up to 250 people, the property is hoping to lure retreats and weddings as well.

Less than a mile from Yosemite’s Highway 120 West entrance, Rush Creek Lodge is a sister property of the nearby historic Evergreen Lodge.

A check of off-peak periods next year found rates starting in at $295. A $100 credit is being offered for reservations made before the end of 2015.
