Las Vegas: Veteran comic’s new book focuses on the funny side of life

For folks who can’t get enough of George Wallace onstage in Las Vegas, the veteran comic will soon be providing even more laughs in his new book, “Laff It Off,” due out Monday.

George Wallace, a familiar face on late-night TV, is in his ninth year headlining in the Flamingo Las Vegas showroom. He will be peddling the book after his performances; it also will be available through publisher Chaite Press.

Several well-known celebrities sing the book’s praises, including Jerry Seinfeld, who wrote the foreword. Seinfeld and Wallace have been best friends for 37 years.

“[The book] gives you a great feeling of hanging around with George Wallace. Which I’m telling you, based on a lot of years of real life experience, is one of the best feelings you can have in this world,” Seinfeld writes.

The book covers a range of everyday topics to which readers will relate:

On travel, Wallace writes: “I don’t know about you, but the TSA drives me crazy. They’ve got me taking off my shoes every time I fly. I spent $500 on these shoes. You think I’m gonna blow ’em up?

On aging: “I’m not old yet, but my younger days are definitely in the rearview mirror.…Your priorities change in a big way. Not to mention you can no longer open plastic containers. Chips, cookies, candy bars. You can forget about opening them with your bare hands. Yesterday I had to back my car over a Milky Way to get the … thing open.”

Humor is a potent ally, Wallace says. “Looking at life through a humorous lens has helped me every step of the way,” Wallace says in a news release. “I’ve always tried to help my audiences see the lighter side of life.”
