New at these zoos: Best baby pictures from a new crop of young’uns

On Mother’s Day, these moms won’t be going to brunch or getting flowers, although some might enjoy eating them.
Zoos in Austria, Australia, Germany, Hungary and the U.S. have been busy this spring welcoming black rhinos, kangaroos, bears and boars, among many other creatures.
For some species, zoo breeding programs are vital to keep them from going extinct. The Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia, for example, marked the birth of its second southern hairy-nosed wombat in three years, the zoo’s website says. The species is on Australia’s critically endangered list.
And two western lowland gorillas were born last month at the Bronx Zoo in New York, a species listed as critically endangered in the wild by at least one international agency. The newborns are the first gorillas born since 2006 and are part of a program to “enhance the genetic viability” in zoo animals.
